When multiple miscarriages occur, investigation by the doctor into STDs and PIDs is started and will include a pap smear to detect viruses that are linked to infertility. In other cases, the embryo does develop for a little while but has abnormalities that make it impossible for it to continue to survive and it stops developing before it has a heartbeat. Once your baby has a heartbeat, the chance of having a miscarriage decreases significantly.
